Here's everything you need to know about the making-of and where to listen to THE WAY OF THE VEGAN MEATHEAD audiobook.
I never thought this day would come. Back in March of 2022, upon release of the second edition of my book, The Way of The Vegan Meathead: Eating for Strength, I received many requests to release the book as an audiobook. I had previously thought of doing just that, but I never understood just how much work it entails. Shortly after the successful launch of the second edition in print and digital, I invested in some modest audio recording gear for my home. I didn't have a vocal booth, studio room, or anything like that. But I did have a large walk-in closet. I figured that would sufffice, so on July 8, 2022 (which, according to my Files Explorer details, is the 'date created' of the first audio file made for the introduction of the audiobook) I set up in my closet and began reading pages into microphone. It wasn't the reading of the book itself that was so bad. That only took a couple months of nightly sessions to finish. As I would come to find out, it was the audio editing that would drag on and on – for roughly two years. My god. Removing breaths. Sifting through bad lines to find the best takes. Deleting page turn noises. Deleting the calamity of my dogs making racket in the background. Deleting those pesky ASMR saliva-laden mouth noises that are a peeve of mine. Listening to my own voice for hours on end! (Believe it or not, I am not into that!) I declare, making this audiobook has actually been the most tedious and time-sucking project I have ever undertaken on my own. Sure, I could have dropped a cool 10k for others to do all this labor for me, but contrary to popular belief, I am just not dripping in that much wealth. So I committed to trying to knock this project out whenever I could in my spare time – after work, after training, after band practice, on plane rides and the few weekends here and there when I was not booked to speak, play shows, or do things in the world with Mrs. Vegan Meathead. Sometimes, finding the time was tough. At others, finding the motivation to sit down and engage myself in the drudgery was tougher. But through it all, I prevailed. The project is done, and it's ready for your frickin' ears. I'm not an audio engineer, so maybe it did not come out perfectly, but I am damn proud of how it did come out. Please hear for yourself: The audio is clear, understandable, and you can crank it in your car or ear buds to get PUMPED.
I recommend you get to listening. Share it with friends and family. Share it with the naysayers and skeptics of Vegan Power. Share it with those who are hungry to achieve their own Vegan Power. Go forth now with a righteous mission! Here is where you can listen as of today (this list will be updated as new platforms pick up the book):
